Aqua Turquoise Zellige Square 4x4 handmade Moroccan tiles, nine tiles in a 3x3 grid on a white background

Product Details

Aqua Turquoise is a soft, sea-washed zellige that sits right between turquoise and aqua green, like shallow Mediterranean water over pale sand. The glaze has a gentle satin-matte finish with a fine speckled texture, so instead of a hard shine it gives a calm, chalky depth, with lighter clouds where the glaze thins and slightly deeper turquoise where it pools.

Each tile is hand pressed and kiln fired by master artisans in Fes, Morocco. Subtle tonal shifts from tile to tile, small pinholes, soft ripples and hand-cut edges that show the warm terracotta body underneath are all part of its character, and exactly what sets genuine handmade zellige apart from machine-made turquoise tile.

Each tile measures 4x4 inches with slightly irregular edges and natural variation in thickness. Use it for a fresh kitchen backsplash, a bathroom or shower wall, a laundry room, a pool or patio feature wall, or a sheltered outdoor surface. It pairs beautifully with white oak, unlacquered brass, warm white plaster, terracotta accents and a soft white grout.

Installation

Zellige is handmade, so it installs more like masonry than standard ceramic tile. Plan for 2 to 3 times the usual setting time, and work with an installer who has set handmade tile before.

  • Mix the boxes. Open every box and blend the tiles before you start. Size, tone and glaze vary from tile to tile, and mixing spreads that variation evenly across the wall.
  • Dry-lay first. Lay out a section on the floor, set aside any tiles you do not want in the field, and put the best-matched pieces where they are most visible.
  • Set with thin-set. Use a quality thin-set mortar and back-butter each tile, since the backs are uneven. White thin-set is common under light glazes.
  • Keep joints tight. Zellige is traditionally laid edge to edge. Wedge spacers give a consistent joint and protect the tile edges.
  • Cut with a wet saw. Use a fine diamond blade. Small chips along cut edges are normal for handmade tile.
  • Grout and seal. We recommend Mapei UltraColor Plus FA in Light Almond. Seal only the unglazed parts with Lithofin MN Stain-Stop, before and after installation.

Order at least 15% extra for cuts and breakage, and ask your installer to confirm the setting materials for your surface.

Delivery

Delivery Terms & Conditions

1. Delivery Inspection
Please ensure that all products are carefully checked at the time of delivery. Any breakages or damages must be clearly stated on the delivery note. This is essential, as all deliveries are insured against damage, and doing so allows for a swift response from our customer service team.

Important: If you sign for a delivery without noting any damage, we reserve the right to refuse replacements or refunds for any broken items.

In case of damage:

  • Inspect the delivery thoroughly
  • If any items are damaged, mark the delivery note as "damaged" and sign it
  • If you have not signed the delivery note "damaged", we reserve the right to refuse any replacements
  • Inform us immediately of any damage at info@handtile.com
  • We may request written confirmation of the issue within 48 hours of delivery
  • Take digital photos of the damaged items and send them to us as soon as possible, as these are necessary for processing insurance claims

If someone else is receiving the delivery on your behalf, they must be fully informed of these conditions.

2. Delivery Company & Site Access
All deliveries are subcontracted to national pallet networks, which operate through central hubs and independent local depots. As a result, Handtile cannot guarantee delivery on a specific date and cannot be held responsible for late deliveries or any delays or costs resulting from them.

At the time of your order, please inform us of any site restrictions that could affect delivery. Our delivery vehicles are typically large, and any obstructions should be cleared in advance. Please notify us of any potential issues including:

  • Parking restrictions
  • Congestion charges
  • Narrow lanes or roads
  • Slopes or steep driveways
  • Height restrictions
  • Weak or weight-limited bridges

You may be charged for redelivery if we are not informed of these in advance. We strongly recommend that you do not schedule tradespeople for installation on the delivery day, as Handtile will not be liable for any costs arising from delayed delivery.

3. Curbside Delivery
Please note that delivery drivers are not permitted to move products inside your property or site. All deliveries are curbside only and will be offloaded at the nearest suitable point to your address, which may be the roadside.

For orders over 150 sq ft, please be aware that larger pallets and heavier loads may be involved. You or someone on your behalf must be present to receive the delivery. If no one is available, the delivery will not be offloaded and additional redelivery charges will apply.

Please ensure all goods are checked upon delivery and that the delivery note is signed appropriately. Handtile will not accept claims if the delivery note is signed "unchecked."

4. Pallets & Crates
Your order will typically arrive on pallets or in crates, which are considered part of your delivery. Handtile is not responsible for removing pallets or crates from your site unless specifically agreed beforehand.

How It's Made

Crafted by hand and soul, our Zellige tiles are a tribute to ancient Moroccan artistry reimagined with a modern, curated edge. Each tile is hand-chiseled and glazed by master artisans in Fes using traditional methods passed down through generations.

The result? Perfectly imperfect surfaces that shimmer with rich tonal variation, depth, and warmth. Our collections blend timeless geometry with Handtile's bold, contemporary spirit, creating rhythmic compositions that elevate kitchens, bathrooms, fireplaces, and feature walls into spaces of soulful elegance. No two tiles are ever alike, and that's exactly the magic.

Product and Sample Orders

Despite our close attention to detail and strict packaging standards, breakages can occasionally occur during delivery. For this reason, we strongly recommend ordering at least 15% more tiles than your net area to allow for possible transit damage and any additional cuts required during installation.

Please note that we do not accept liability for damage, delays, or reshipment fees for orders placed without this recommended buffer. Samples are free and limited to 4 per order. Orders exceeding this limit may be canceled and refunded.

Please note that all samples and showroom displays are intended as a general guide only and may not represent the exact appearance of the finished product due to variations in lighting, screen resolution, and material texture. We recommend always ordering a sample before committing to a full order to ensure the product meets your expectations.
